misfire code

      have a 1997 Nissan pickup. 2.4 liter automatic. when I go out on highway you know 55 mile a hour. the check engine light come on.(p.0.302)cylinder no 2 misfiring.when I get back to town, and park for maybe 20 minute are so the check engine light go off by it self.as long as I drive around town light say off but the minute I hit the highway light come back on i have had 3 mechanic look at this. they all say that they can’t get it to misfire.

        Check the spark plug, the wires (if equipped) or coil and fuel injector connections. A quick tip is to move the coil to another cylinder and see if the code moves. If it moves, it is related to your coil. If the error still stays on that cylinder, switch the fuel injector to another cylinder and see if the error moves to another cylinder. If it moves it is related to that fuel injector…

        If after that you still get the error in cylinder you may need to run a compression test/leak down to find what is going on.

          With misfires it’s always a good idea to check the basics like your plugs, wires and air filter. It’s also a good idea to check for vacuum leaks. They can also be caused by mechanical issues in the engine. I cover this in detail in this article. There’s also videos that show how to go about the diagnostics.
