Yes it can due to loss of compression. Usually an indicating factor is white smoke/water out the tailpipe. Here is a list of common things that can cause a misfire:
1. Loss of compression(headgasket falls into this catagory)
2. Fuel Issue to one or more cylinders
3. Spark/Ignition Issue
4. Emissions Issue
An engine needs air, spark, compression and fuel to fire. A misfire will happen if any of those are missing.
