Somebody mentioned Millenials on here, and so I thought I would tell my unbiased millenial story. Anyway, two millenials live across the street from me, and they live with their parents (nothing wrong with that), anyway, they have a couple vehicles, one is a Nissan Pathfinder, and the younger one, he crunched the back up of it up pretty good, and it made the tire go flat. Anyway, these boys had it in the driveway so I knew they were trying to fix the tire, when I overheard the older seasoned of the two say to his younger brother that he couldn’t believe a vehicle as big a Pathfinder didn’t have a spare tire. I politely went over there and offered the suggestion that it might be on the underside of the vehicle, behind the bumper. I knew this because I could see the tire under there, from across the street. Nissans have used this setup since, well at least since I had my 1973 620. Anyway, he was so grateful that I could figure this problem out for him. Thats my Millenial story. Make your own judgements as he my neighbor, and friend, and a very accurate representation of today’s youth in all he does.

It was a bright sunny day, bitter cold after a big snow. I decided it was the perfect day for replacing a popped A/C evaporator. Looking out the open garage door I saw a young fellow sitting in his car in the street. Twenty minutes later his was still there. I got curious and walked over to see what was wrong. His rear tire was flat and he explained that it was just too cold to get out and replace it. I could of offered to help but I figured he had some kind of electronic communication, all kids do, and someone was on the way. So, I returned to my project and eventually he disappeared. I was busy and didn’t notice what the end of the story was.
I’ll be totally honestly Im in between Generation X and Millennial Im 30 and was born in August of 84. I sorta akin myself to Gen X’s more so then then other one. I personally have no problem trying to solve problems myself if Im physically or mentally able to. Pertaining to cars I have professionals work on my car for major things and oil changes (Im just physically not able to with major back and knee problems). I’ve changed my own tire on the side of the road in -20 degrees with my hands freezing on a interstate before.
A lot of the problem I see with this generation is they just don’t seem to critically think and if it solved with a quick fix then sod it im calling something. I personally never had this mentality. Call it Yankee inguenity or whatever you want I just prefer to do most things myself if I can.
Auto dealerships survive on people just like that. And I personally see no problem with that attitude as long as they don’t mind paying $50 for things like installing a cabin filter. It’s people like that who subsidize $25 oil changes.
I never said my Generation was too bright. I could go off on a tangent about out education system but it would be for naught.
Like I said in my earlier post if i can do I will. I’ve replaced a cabin air filter in my van before. I just cant do thing that require me being on my back on the ground for too long.
