Mom has given me her Mercury, bought new in 2008. As subject line reads, it has less than 4,000 miles on the clock. Basically…I’m worried if I start to use it, it will start to give me huge trouble due to dry seals…etc. It has been driven to the mailbox and back….literally!

I should jump on this, I know, but….I trust my 22 year old Buick Park Ave. (daily driver) more than Mom’s car which has not even had it’s second oil change!

Suggestions on proper way to break in this vehicle after it has been slowly aging away would be appreciated.

I’d suggest an immediate oil change, check the air filter box for rodents nests, load test the battery, and fill the gas tank with some fresh gas. Aside from that, start putting some miles on it. I doubt the seals would be in bad shape. Even though she never got the car up to operating temperature, she at least had the car running periodically.

I’d run with that advice. Throw some basic maintenance on it, check the rubber parts out (tires, belts, hoses, etc) If all looks good- And an undercar inspection is fine? No reason not to put some miles on it.
