Mercedes 190e Handbrake acting strange

Hi, my handbrake on my 190e is acting strange when I disengage it the lever goes all the way down but gets stuck at the last click and I release the button and it disengages fully. (Annoying on hill starts!)
Also if I push the button in and engage it, it clicks twice as if it’s grinding on cogs and then it engages fine,
Help would be appreciated
