1993 protege. It’s a friend’s car. We have spark. We have fuel. All sensors seem to be working correctly (per Multimeter). Good compression. Timing is perfect.
Engine turns and sounds like it wants to start, but never does, even when starting fluid is sprayed directly into throttle body

        1. This has a regular ignition coil I assume?

It has the ignition coil separate from the distributor. It has a strong blue spark so I doubt it’s an ignition issue. I did double check it with my Multimeter though

I just went through a 2 week on/off diagnostic issue because of a coil that sparked but was BAD.
            1. What is primary and secondary coil reststance readings?
            2. Any spark from spark plug wire?
            3. Is coil providing a pulse signal?

I don’t remember what the resistance was on the primary coil (the one mounted on the top of the drivers wheel well). I had a trouble shooting tree and the primary checked out. I wanna say it was 1.5 ohms.
I kinda stopped there though cause I had speak at all for plugs.
Where is the secondary coil? Is that in the distributor? How do I check that?

If the engine isn’t firing when you’re spraying starter fluid into the intake, you don’t have spark at the plugs.

If my thinking is correct you should have 3 posts on your ignition coil so do this if you indeed have 3:

                  1. Remove from car and take picture……..attach pic and I will explain how to check bith primary/secondary resistance…………I am not saying you have 2 coils

I have spark on all four plugs. I understand what you are saying. This is why I’m on here asking advice.

Well I’m not sure when I’ll be around the car. As I indicated earlier, I’m just kinda picking your brains for a friend

My brain is saying you dont have ENOUGH SPARK. Until you can perform primary/secondary resistance readings I cant think of another way to help unless I say replace parts. Not being a smart ass but to diagnose something you have to be willing to do leg work. Good Luck
