My sisters Mazda 626 will not start at all but all electrics work fine, when my sister turns the key she hears a click but no hum.
This made me think fuel pump but i cant confirm this as we are talking via email.
Is their anything else i can tell my sister to do?

It’s either an electrical issue, the starter motor, or engine’s seized up.
If the engine isn’t turning over but it’s making a single click, that could just be some of the electrics kicking in, but the starter motor isn’t turning the engine over.
If it’s making lots of ticking then the starter motor is trying to kick the engine over but is either damaged so it can’t, doesn’t have enough power to because the battery’s dead, or the engine’s seized and it can’t turn it over.
If the engine isn’t turning over most likely you’ll find it’s the starter motor or your battery’s dead.
January 3, 2012 at 11:00 am #449138Is this a cranking but no start or a no crank condition?
January 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #449139Well my sister doesnt know if it is cranking >_>.
She did say the radio works fine along with the blinkers and they didnt sound weak but doesnt mean anything if the battery doesnt have enough amps to turn the engine.
She ended up calling a mobile mechanic(the worst kind in my opioion)
January 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #449140Well i hope she found a reputable repair service.
I would maybe show her the basics of a no start and a no crank so she can be better armed just incase these situations happen again or, have her sign up for these forums! C8-)
January 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #449141She is not auto savvy, she doesn’t even know how to change a light blub.
January 5, 2012 at 11:00 am #449142Yea it would have been nice to know if it was a crank no start or a no crank no start as they could indicate very different things.
January 5, 2012 at 11:00 am #449143It was a battery.
Now i hope is not the alternator, but the battery in question was 2 years old so it was old and just died i guess.

Two years seems like a short life for a battery, unless it was a really crappy battery..
January 6, 2012 at 11:00 am #449145I would recommend her taking her vehicle to an auto parts store for free on vehicle charging and starting system testing.
January 6, 2012 at 11:00 am #449146+1 on getting the charging system tested.
January 7, 2012 at 11:00 am #449147In australia we dont have free testing.
January 7, 2012 at 11:00 am #449148would it matter that it wasn’t used for a week before the issue?
Like a parasitic drain.
January 8, 2012 at 11:00 am #449149It just so happens tomorrow’s video is on Parasitic Draw so you’ll have the info on that but as far as checking the battery and charging system here is the video.
