I have a 2005 Mazda 3 with 200K miles on it. The car has always received timely maintenance by yours truly. It’s been gas, oil, tires and a set of brakes (plus a few thermostats) and that’s it. I am beginning to wonder how many miles a car like this is capable of before extensive service may be required. I would be very happy if she had another 100K in her.

Anybody else own one of these cars with high mileage ? What is a reasonable expectation for the durability of a car like this that has been well maintained ? These are all difficult questions to answer but the bottom line is – I don’t have any idea how many miles these cars are capable of. Maybe I’ll try to find out…

As long as you stay on top of all your maintenance, I’m sure you will get allot more miles out of the vehicle.

One test you can do is a compression test to see how well the engine is holding up. Compression loss usually occurs in high mileage engines as the mileage start to wear them out.
