Maxlife PSF in Subaru?

Hadn’t ever changed my PSF. I normally change brake fluid about once a year, everything else with full synthetic on a regular basis but I never did PSF. 238,000. So I bought some Maxlife Power Steering Fluid. My Subaru calls for ATF. I went ahead and sucked out 8.5 ounces with the mighty vac pump and put in 8.5 ounces of Maxlife power steering fluid. Wonder if I should have used ATF? Or does it make little difference, the power steering fluid says it’s for imports other than Honda.

I’m not saying you can’t use max life ATF. My question would be why? If there was an issue with noise or something I could see why you might try it but if it’s normal with no noise or issues I wouldn’t spend the extra $ unless I had some lying around and wanted to try it.

        Keep us posted.

Used Mobil 1 due to being Dexron III. Had a weird feeling where the steering got light and not smooth when first turning the wheel from a stop sometimes. Tried the Maxlife PSF twice and it got worse. Tried Mobil 1 ATF once and it went away. Just did the Mobil 1 again.

Here’s the thing, $10 a quart yes. This is the first time I have ever changed it. If it saves me a rack or pump, it’s worth every penny and then some. Both are original.

I can understand if you’re trying to solve an issue, but if you’re just changing the fluid, I don’t see the point.

Kind of both. The mobil 1 ATF seems to work better than the maxlife PSF.
