The Nissan service manual says the mass airflow reading at 2500RPM on a no load warmed up engine should be approximately 12.2 grams per second.

My scantool shows me at 2500RPM it’s about 10.3-11 grams per second.

Does anyone know if this sounds like a big enough difference to represent a problem? How does a mass airflow sensor account for cold air? Does it use the IAT in any way and would a defective IAT bias the mass airflow sensor? What about the air filter in front of the sensor? Can’t that bias the reading?

The computer uses the IAT for the air temperature. On some types of MAFs the IAT is integrated with the maf.

A MAF that is not functioning per specifications can cause poor performance and increased fuel usage. It looks as though yours is not functioning to spec.

The air filter can have a restrictive effect, so it could cause an issue. Also oil impregnated air filters are said to have caused issues with MAFs, but I have not personally observed this.
