Zoom in on the circled area and you’ll see the seems don’t match up.
May 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #449070Does the fuel tank have any damage? (Dents or dings) the sending unit may have been damaged in the crash.C8-)
May 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #449071That pic would just indicate that perhaps the rear bumper skin was replaced. I would inspect the fuel tank itself for damage as suggested, it could be that the baffles inside the tank were knocked loose causing a problem with the movement of the wiper arm for the sending unit.
May 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #449072Its under warranty until feb 2013. I was wondering if I told the service manager that I believe the problem is from a crash dealing with the previous owner, would they deny warranty coverage?
May 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #449073That’s not for me to say really the only way to know is if you ask.

try taking it to a dealership to see if they can resolve it under warranty. C8-)
I’ve been to 2 dealerships, 1st one told me there was no problem and sent me on my way, I drove 40 miles to
the second dealership, waited and hour and they told me to come back later. All both of them did was run a
code reader on the vehicle and nothing else.May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #449077You may have an issue with the sending unit or internal damage to the actual tank.
It might be easier for you next time your low on gas to drop the tank and inspect/test the sending unit yourself as well as checking for internal damage to the tank, particularly the baffles.
May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #449078I would have kept the Century if I wanted to fix things. That being said I bought the lacrosse so I wouldn’t have to fix Shit every other month. If the problem isn’t fixed by a certified dealer in the next few months I’ll be putting a for sale ad in the newspaper & on Craigslist.
May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #449074I shot some video with my phone which clearly shows the problem. Someone tell me this isn’t normal, or if you do think its normal, leave your address so I can slap you in the chops. If the next few dealerships I take it to try and pull some B.S., I’m selling the Buick and getting a Nissan.

May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #449079I’ve never put a great deal of faith into those mileage estimates mostly because I haven’t known them to be accurate. I think it makes an ‘estimate’ based on how the vehicle is being driven at the time but I’m not sure, if this is the case however it might account for the fluctuation. You might try finding a similar vehicle (perhaps at the dealer) and see how it behaves, if it’s the same then I would consider it a normal condition and that would mean there is little to nothing you could do about it unfortunately.
May 20, 2012 at 11:00 am #449080I showed the video to another dealership and they agreed to fix it Monday under warranty. It’s not the fuel range indicator I’m worried about, the fuel gauge needle also moves.

May 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #449082Well that cadillac dealership just made themselves a new loyal customer. Got it back but I won’t know if its fixed until I run the tank low again.

If that fixes the problem I would write a letter or find a number to call at the manufacturer and tell them the specifics and the names and addresses of the dealerships that turned you away without a resolution to your problem. Personally I would print a letter to be sent to the manufacturer, and hand deliver a copy of it to each of the dealers who told you there was no problem and got rid of you. Take it right to the person at the head of the dealership if not the owner of it. Let them know how you were treated and have a copy of the paperwork from the dealership that fixed it for them to see that there was in fact a problem with your vehicle and the other dealership resolved it. Those dealerships don’t like negative feedback going to corporate headquarters and most of the time will try and prevent it. Who knows, maybe the next few service repairs or oil changes, trans fluid changes or coolant changes will be on them if you change your mind and don’t send that letter to corporate HQ. Just a thought.
