I have about 67K miles on my 98 Honda Accord LX. Best as I can tell its running great. The amber Maint Req’d light came on about two weeks ago. Is this calling out a sensor issue or is an emissions filter or something do for a change and then I can manually turn off light. If it is calling out a sensor is there an easy DIY way to determine which sensor is bad? Like jump a couple of wires at a socket and counting amber light flashes. Appreciate your advise.

      Thanks….Milty

Best to hook up a scan tool and see if there are any codes that might indicate a problem.

I can tell you that my 2002 Nissan will show a CEL at certain mileage intervals. (~ 7,500 – 10,000 miles )
The code (which I can’t specifically recall the # ) shows specific manufactures (Mercedes, Audi and VW) and component issues having nothing to do with my Nissan.
I can only assume that it trips this odd ball code at specific intervals to remind the driver to service there car..

Not the CEL the maintenance required light-2 separate things.

            Maintenance Required Indicator
This indicator reminds you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
Refer to the Maintenance Schedules for Normal and Severe Driving Conditions on pages 196 — 200.
For the first 6,000 miles (9,600 km) after the Maintenance Required
Indicator is reset, it will come on for two seconds when you turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Between 6,000 miles (9,600 km) and 7,500 miles (12,000 km) this indicator will light for two seconds
when you first turn the ignition switch ON (II), and then flash for ten seconds.
If you exceed 7,500 miles (12,000 km) without having the scheduled maintenance performed, this
indicator will remain on as a constant reminder.
Your dealer will reset this indicator after completing the scheduled maintenance.
If this maintenance is done by someone other than your Honda dealer, reset the indicator as
            follows.
            1. Turn off the engine.
            2. Press and hold the select/reset button in the instrument panel,
then turn the ignition switch ON
            (II).
            3. Hold the button for about ten seconds, until the indicator resets.

Nightflyr – the pages you noted – is the manual online? I am thinking about purchasing a scan tool if I can get a decent one for not too much money. Thanks for the reset info.
