Can anyone help me figure this out?
The other day I checked my oil and it was down 3qts! I never had any oil loss before. I change my oil every 4000 miles.
I put 1qt of Lucas oil additive that I had in my truck then topped it off with oil. The next day after work I brought my truck in the shop and put it on the hoist, There were no leaks only minor seepage. I am positive that I’m not burning it because of no smoke out the tailpipe, and there is no oil in the coolant. Since then I have not lost any oil and I checked all of the bolts i can on my engine that I could.
My vehicle is a 1999 Mazda B3000 SE 4×4 with automatic transmission

Well today I checked my oil again and I was down a quart I guess I’ll have to do a compression test to see if any cylinders are down on pressure.

uh-oh, you got oil evil fairies! Any smoke arise from the engine at anytime? I once has a valve cover seal that leaked oil onto the header, most of the time I didn’t even smell it, since it seemed random I didn’t really think anything of it, you know, maybe another car on the road or something, or someone burning tires… So because it was burning off of the header there was no oil leak sign, this problem became obvious one day when the whole gasket cracked and white smoke was rolling over my windshield… That was scary!

I wasn’t losing near the amount of oil you are though, I think I added maybe half a quart between an oil change… Of course my little 2.0 only used like ~4.5 quarts so 1/2 is more noticeable…

Maybe minor seepage if not running but when truck is running with the pressurized oil you could be losing oil while driving.

my 2005 durango 4.7 had the same problem. the problem was present from 80k to 115k where I would check the oil and it was empty! I did a compression test and basically all cylinders were at 170psi and one was at 60 psi. so from my leak down test I concluded that the rings were shot on the #6 cylinder and the head gasket blew in between an oil passage and the cylinder wall. the only time i noticed smoke was if it idled at a light of something, and when you gave it gas it blew a big puff of smoke. so at 115k I changed the engine and it doesn’t burn a drop of oil. I now use royal purple 5w-30 and change it every 3k miles.
