I have been working on my friends Sonata for a few weeks now, it seems as one issue gets fixed another comes up. Started with a transmission speed sensor, which lead to speak plugs, cables, timing belt and now to P0300 random misfire. I have checked everything, the fuel system seems to be good, the timing is dead on perfect. When the MAF is plugged in, the car will idle in park only at 2000rpm, when the car is driven it seems to work fine, then when it hits 3rd-4th gear it revs very high then we get a misfire. If I unplug the MAF the idle goes down to normal, clear the code for misfire, the reader of course reads the MAF isnt working because its unplugged. But even at high revs from the shift there are NO misfires at all. We went to the junk yard to get another MAF before dropping $200 on a brand new one, found one that looked perfect, cleaned it then plugged it in. Same results, high idle, and misfire.
Any ideas? P0300 code tripped at high rev when gears stick only when MAF is connected. With MAF unplugged perfect idle, and no misfire.
