      Hey I got a 2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6

few days ago my car suddenly died on me when I was pulling out of a parking spot (engine & low oil pressure lights went on). I checked the oil, it was good, so I started the car back up then it died again 5 seconds later.

I changed the oil pressure sensor, oil filter and the oil but it didn’t help.

When the car is idle, rpm is at 500 (lower then normal). After I gas it in idle, the rpm falls even more and the engine sounds like its about to stall but rpm picks back up to 500.

There’s also a rattle from deep under the engine, I can kind of hear it in idle but its louder and constant when I shift into D or R (not N). Sometimes the engine stalls when I shift into D or R, but it can stay running in idle as long as I need.

When im reving the engine in idle I don’t hear the noise, in fact a compression test showed 120 psi at all 6 cylinders

There is white vapor going out and exhaust pops when im hitting the gas @high rpm but block test showed that head gasket was ok. Any suggestions would be helpful because i’m stumped on this one. Thanks!

PS another thing i forgot to mention is i get a “PISSS” sound above the engine every time I hit the gas in idle. I don’t know if its related to the mechanical problem but I didn’t have it before.

Maybe you need to use heaver oil ex : 5w40 to build up oil pressure before the repair. For the rattle you can use Lucas upper lubrication cylinder to smooth the ride.

I’m not exactly sure what you have but I had very similar sounding problems when my engine spun a rod bearing. Was there any copper shavings in the oil after this happened?

your oil light will come on if you stall. For
the low idle.Check the IAC.Take the handle of
a screw driver and tap on it.if the idle changes
replace the IAC.I would also check for vacuum leaks
and look at the pcv and hoses.also clean the Throttle
            body.

Based on your description I’d be preparing to replace the engine or the car depending on how much value is left in the car. An oil light that’s on with an engine noise usually means the end of an engine as the oil pressure video above points out. The way to confirm this is to check the actual oil pressure with an oil pressure gauge. If it’s below spec then it’s likely the engine is worn out and should be replaced.
