      2003 Nissan Pathfinder 4wd

Car has 74,000 miles, running great, just burning oil a little bit.

      1. When I start the car at the morning it does the following. Tachometer gauge jumps (bounces) to 1700 RPM for a second and then goes down to normal warm up process.

      2. When the car is warm and I turn it off. If I start the car immediately or after some time (engine should be warm) Engine starts to stall, rpm gauge goes to 400-500. Sometimes it stalls, but in most cases it somehow manages not to stall and after a second or two goes back to normal.

As I said earlier car has no evident problems, no check engine light.

As people suggested on the other forum, I’ve cleaned the MAF recently, but it did not solve the problem.

What else should I try next?

I would inspect the IAC as initial startup issues you are having could be because it needs to be cleaned

Also if you can church the readings of the O2 sensors

Wouldnt a iac act up cold or hot?
If o2 sensors are not reading right a check engine light would be present?

I have seen ignition components have trouble when hot.
As eric has told in his video”check the simple stuff”.
Sensors are hard to test without a dvom,or scanner with live data abilitys.
I have also seen vacuum leaks only when hot, propane tank with long hose one of many ways to test for those problems. There seems to be alot of problems with nissan, check for tsb on the problem.

the IAC is one of the simple checks plus fixes, you can just clean it with fuel injection cleaner…

there are lots of possibilities on what your can has..btw, does it drive normally? idle normally after some time?

i had a similar problem on my 97 camaro which turned out to be an electrical connection of the TPS… lots of things could be the problem

check fuel pressure and the injectors.
also check fuel pressure regulator. fuel
pressure at idle 34 psi vac line off fpr 43 psi

As with any idle issue check for vacuum leaks first as they are one of the biggest causes, here’s a video that may help.

I’m afraid to do the vacuum leak check, because you said that it might catch fire. 🙁
Is it a bad idea to clean IAC first? What fluid should I use? I only have CRC MAF Cleaner and CRC Throttle Body cleaner.

I’d clean the IAC first, if that is the problem then that’s all you need to do. Carb cleaner will work, but your throttle body cleaner might be the same, not sure really.

Testing for vacuum leaks on a hot engine isn’t safe/possible without a smoke machine.

Use the garden hose for the vaccum leak test. Won’t hurt your engine if it is cool when you do the test. Listen for a change in idle.

                        You can also use water.

                          Eric,

Could you suggest which fluid to use for cleaning IAC?

                            Throttle body or carb cleaner.

+1 but don’t get your hopes up, I don’t often find that cleaning an IAC does anything, if one is bad it’s bad and cleaning it won’t help. Doesn’t hurt to try though I suppose.
