low break pedal.

      hello, i have a 2003 kia spectra with a 4 cylinder in it. recently i have replaced rear brake shoes and front brake pads and i still have a low break pedal. when i push the break pedal in nothing happens until about halfway down. my break light comes on immediatly even tho im not stopping just yet. the guy who works on my car had no clue. hoping you guys could help me track it down. also, to my knowledge the break system was never opened up so i dont think there is air in the system but if there was how would i fix that?

        there wasnt anything on the bottom that looked like an adjuster. the piece you see on the top by the blue spring and with the red spring attached was the adjuster. the drum fits on there nice and snug. i had a decently hard time wigling the drum back onto the hub. so i dont think its an adjustment issue. im gonna change the brake fluid tomorrow but idk if i should bleed all the wheels or just chage the master cylinder. which do you recommend?

          Did you check to make sure there is no ridge of rust on the drum. That would make it hard to get on but still not be tight enough for the drum brakes to work good enough.
          The bar on top with the red spring is not an adjuster.

            i didnt check for rust. the drums are extremely rusty though. to the point where i wanna replace them. so that is possible. and now that think about it there may be a bottom adjuster as well. can there be two? cuz it looked like my shoes were wearing more at the top and at a slant. i might be seeing things tho. they arent even a week old yet.

              Looking at your picture. the thing with the red spring at the top is part of your e brake apparatus. That has to wiggle freely for proper brake adjustment. You could have someone apply the e brake to see how it works. If it has tension on it, proper brake adjustment is impossible.
              Under the axle is your adjuster. It is a threaded part with little cogs in the middle. You push the cogs with a screw driver. to turn the threads, to make the shoes move in or out.
              If your drums are worn or turned past the max diameter spec, you will not have a good wear pattern showing on your shoes. That is because the two diameters will not be the same.(If you put a small circle in a larger circle, only a small amount of contact is possible)
