Hey guys. I need help with diagnosing a noise. I was driving home from work one day and I started hearing a loud rotational noise starting around 30 MPH.

My car is a 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with about 83k miles on it. New tires, front and rear brakes/rotors, front calipers, front wheel bearings all done within the the last 10k miles.

I had an alignment done and tires balanced and rotated within 2k miles.

The guy at the shop said there was nothing mechanically wrong with my car but he also tried convincing me my K&N air filter needed to be replaced and the noise was “tire tread”.

Any thoughts? The noise is LOUD. As in I can’t hear my radio unless it’s all the way up.

Either rotate the wheels or put it up on jack stands to see if the noise goes away.

I fond the problem. Apparently I had a faulty wheel bearing because it went bad in less than a year so I got it replaced. Thank you for your reply!

I would first look at brakes.. since 80% of your braking happens from the front. Could be your pads are just rubbing in coast mode. In theory they will rub some. Just how life is.. But if they are dragging maybe pull the wheel off, and pull the pads and use some brake clean (all parts stores, and walmart sales it in a can).. Get a clean rag and clean your rotors first, then move to the more dirty stuff the caliper area.. Why you are doing this.. do you see big groves in your rotors? Is the pads worn down to where you see shiny metal. If you see either of these it is time for a brake job NOW… 2nd possible problem is wheel bearing.. I dono on imports but possible it is this. But I suspect brakes..
