I own a 2006 Mitsubishi raider. Lately, I’ve gotten loud LOUD clunks when hitting bumps (mainly my driveway). It sounds like something to just about to break on larger bumps. I replaced my end links not long ago and the noise started soon after. I checked the end links and even re-torqued them but the noise is still there. I’ve read around with people saying it could be the strut… leaf springs, or just the sway bar bushings themselves.
Everything seemed tight when I wiggled it by hand I’m at something of a loss.

to me it sounds like the strut or the spring … if you get the quick strut (shock and spring) you should be good.. have you tryed shaking the car up and down… if you want to get a better idea if that is it… jack your car up and try lifting the tire up it should be very hard to lift … that can tell you how week they are but its hard to do with out a lift… only thing else I could think of is see if any bolts and broken on the bottem of the rear frame… odd but its all else I can think of… sorry man 🙁
What’s your mileage, and when were the sway bar bushings last replaced? If the brackets are accessible it’s an easy DIY job and lets you eliminate one source. (If you go this route I would recommend OE bushings — I bought a set from Advanced Auto for my 02 Accord, and not only was the rubber noticeably softer, the holes for one pair were slightly different sizes. Back they went. )
It has 90,000 some miles. As for the bushings I don’t know when they were last replaced. I’ve never done it and had the truck for about six years now. I was going to replace them anyway before the noise started ….but has distracted me somewhat.
Well, I figured it out. And I feel like a doof ha.
When having lunch I had a thought that maybe….maybe I mounted the end links on the wrong side of the mounting bracket for them. I look down there and sure enough the side of the bracket I had them mounted on bulges out right above the link. Thus when hitting a bump the top of the link would hit this part of the bracket and make the noise.
Noise fixed, doofiness receded and all is well!
