Hello! I have a 1994 Ford F-150 with the 300ci I6. I am having a problem that seems to be occurring a lot on these trucks which is a loud power steering pump even though it is completely full and it also still works perfectly fine (one finger can turn the wheels from all the way left to all the way right sitting still at a stop sign). It sounds similar to the truck in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3WQ05FV0S0) skip to about 45 seconds to hear it (by the way that is not me)

not the best clip but you can make out what I am talking about, any tips on how to quiet this thing?!?

You may want to try and change the fluid.

I’ll definitely give that a shot, however it seems to be a common issue with these, I know my father’s ’91 F-150 with the same drivetrain as mine did the same exact thing as well, I have also looked online to try to see if there is a common fix for this common issue and came up with nothing. It’s not really an issue as much as an annoyance because it has been happening since I bought the truck 4 years ago and it was happening on my dad’s truck for as long as I can remember. like I said the unit works fine but it just makes noise. any suggestions on the fluid I should use?

If changing the fluid doesn’t help, there may be air getting into the system somewhere. Hondas have a similar issue with an ‘o’ ring that goes bad on the inlet to the pump. When that happens, air gets in the fluid which causes the pump to make noise. If you see a bunch of air in the fluid, this might be the case. It could also be a worn pump. A worn pump may still work just fine, but make noise during operation.

Please keep us updated on your progress.
