      Hello all,
So i have a 2005 acura tl v6 and when i went to do the oil change (the car has about 180k and i figured maybe the engine is worn so i put in 5-20 and oil lucas oil stabalizer (thickner) and shortly after the valves got really clacky. Now every time I go to turn the car on the valves are so loud and embarrassing. my question is: has this happened to anyone and how can i fix this problem before anything goes wrong

Engine additives stop leaks or any other types of quick fixes will more times than not will create more problems then the fix.

I would do another complete oil change with new filter using the recommended oil weight for the vehicle.

yes, so, after i heard the valves start doing that every time i went to start the car i thought maybe the oil stabilizer was causing it so i did another oil change with the original weight oil but the sound is still there now. im thinking it caused some kind of permanent damage to the valves or something

It might not be the valves. It could be a worn timing belt tensioner.

when was the last time the valves were adjusted?

You really need to put the correct wieght oil in engines with VVT (like VTEC),

it sounds like….clack clack clack but really fast. It sounds like noisey valves. but I talked to a mechanic and he said that the oil is calibarated to the valves or hydraulic valves and that maybe i messed the valve clearance or something. I didnt exactly understand entirely

yeah, I did that already. But it still does it. It goes away after the motor has been driven and has reached operating temperature (im assuming because everything is metal and it expands a bit to compensate for the slack or gap) but then when I let it sit for a while and go to turn it on again it does the same thing

Where about the engine is the noise the worst?

if I go and open the hood the noise is coming from right on top of the engine. It’s a v6 and I just hear it around the valve covers..

Has the timing belt been done recently?
