lose shifter

      same 1990 integra, when gear the shifter will move 3-5 inches left and right…i checked the bushings and they seem to be ok, the shift linkage will move all the way to the trans as one solid unit…

        Any strange noises? Missing gears? Or is everything normal except for the looseness?

        If the answers are no, no and yes, than you have bad bushings (they can look great, but still be bad) remember your shifter at the trans only turns a small bit for the large amount of throw.

        And remember you also have a bushing under the shift lever that is super hard to show wear physically, but will cause all sorts of neutral select play (back and forth).

          ill try it for sure! the strange noise yes…bc when i slap the shifter to the left it clunks (slapping on the lower sway bar under the car…the bushing on it is also out…just sliding back and forth

            It’s a very common problem for the shift linkage bushings to go out on those vehicles. What you describe sounds like a typical symptom of that problem. Grab the shift linkage and see if there is any play in the bushings. If you find some, replace the shift linkage and recheck for the problem.

              Sounds like something is out of alignment.

              Don’t forget the drag bar (the long straight one that just bolts to the transmission case) bushing has to be super tight, that bar ensures the shifter and transmission do not change in alignment (if they do your shifting throw would change depending on engine load and suspension load). The long funny looking bushing ensures your right/left movement of the shifter (1/2,3/4,5/R selection) translates into turns of the shifting rod and not wasted into shifting the brackets around.

              The right/left movement of your shifter turns the main rod about a 1/8th turn, pulling the shifter back moves the rod forward and pushing the shifter forward moves the rod back.

                sweet…ill get it on the ramps first thing tomorrow…i am 19 years old..and really want to be a mechanic!! so all of the tips that you all are sharing is helping me alot not only to fix my problem s but tofind future ones
