Admittedly I am cheap. I’m looking for a post 1996 Honda Automatic project for my Grandbaby. I wanted to start her out on a straight shift but Grandma won’t have it. Does anyone have advice as to which Year, Engine, Transmission I should be looking for? I’m not really a Honda guy but don’t have a problem with electrical or mechanical repairs. Just want to start with a good base.

1996-97 Accords are great little cars 2.2 engine good fuel mileage I would stay away from the automatics though those transmissions are known to be a bit weak especially in the 98-02 cars, if u get one of those and u live in a salt area look out for rusted out subframes especially the front one on the right side

I have a 2000 Accord 4cyl automatic myself. It’s been very reliable for the two years I’ve had it so far.

If you were to consider the 6th gen Accord (98-02), I’d stay away from the 6cyl; which are automatics as well. The difference is the 6 cylinder automatic transmissions are known to be weaker.

You probably can’t go wrong with a Honda Civic automatic though. I’ve honestly never looked into one, so researching forums should help out.

Tell Granny that grandkids need to learn how to drive a stick.
