Lindsey Checking in from Houston

Hi everyone,

Lindsey here, just wanted to formally check in to introduce myself since I know I’ll be using these forums quite a bit. I’m originally from the great Northwoods of Minnesota, found myself in the Air Force as a broadcast journalist for a few years, ended up a beach bum on Florida’s panhandle for a few months, and now find myself in Houston, TX — current home of another YouTube mechanic guru, Scotty Kilmer. I’m waiting for the day he publishes a video of how the heck he ended up here, LOL.

I have an interest in vehicles firstly stemming from my German frugality found in our DNA – but I’m a sucker for an old school classic. Also, I’ve been taken to the cleaners many times at the shops, then saw the high-school dropout who was hammering on my car, and finally said, “If half of these a$$holes can do it, so can I.” So I made a promise to learn all that I can about car repair and maintenance. In fact (and this pains me to admit), I even enrolled at UTI here in North Houston last spring. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket for tuition since the Post 9/11 G.I. bill covers me, but after the first two classes I just couldn’t do it. If anybody needs clarification on this…PM me, LOL. Suffice it to say I returned to YouTube and excellent sources of legit, mostly-B.S. free information online, and watching ETCG’s videos, I knew his website would be a top destinations.

When I got out of the AF my first priority was a comfortable ride. I bought a 1978 Dodge B100 (see pic) for $3200 from the friend of a deceased guy named Maurice and traveled cross-country with it, resting at rest-stops and visiting old military friends, fearing out-of-gas scenarios in the bayous and taking my time exploring forgotten roads in the old south especially. My little slice of the American dream, on the road in my van.

Welcome.

Yeah the schools can be a huge pain and disappointment. You also should check out scannerdanner’s videos he teaches out of the school Eric attended and they even have a few videos together. The misfire video was extremely good, as you can see 2 separate ways of looking at the same problem.

Hi Raistian77,

Thanks for the welcome. I have heard of scannerdanner but have not yet checked out the vids, will do so in about five minutes. 🙂 I’m a visual learner so YouTube coupled with auto gurus is like manna from heaven for me! Even after spending a few months (a few months too many) at UTI, YouTube STILL beats them on the educational front.

I don’t get on online as much as I like to but I hope to log on when I can to this site, thanks again for the welcome. Lindsey

Hey Lindsey nice van!! I have one the same year with the same heart windows in the back! But instead of a bigger window on the driverside rear it has a mural of a lake with skiers! Which mine was as nice as yours!
