Just got my car back from the shop last week and I hear a ticking noise.
Let me give you guys the story first

Couple months ago my engine jumped time. Sent car 3 hours away to Accurate engines to have a new engine put in. Got it back a month later (one of the mechanics quit so it took longer) first startup beards ticking noise and slight knock at 2k RPMS
oil light kept coming on a couple days later
They came and picked the car up free of charge and replaced the block and lifters because of failed main bearings(they told me the main bearings spun on the block)
Got the car back a few days ago this week no rod knock sound but I still have the ticking noise. Sometimes at cold startup I cannot hear any noise at all.
Oil pressure seems good engine runs smooth and power is great.
It is a 3.7l engine by the way.
Does anyone know what this sound could be?
Also just for reference, they’re going to come pick the car back up and see what’s wrong with it free of charge. I just want some experienced mechanics to listen to this video and give me some input so I can suggest it to the engine builder.

      Thanks guy.

Believe it or not, that’s the first place I went to.

Is this a Ford or Chrysler 3.7 ?

The Ford is a DOHC engine, while the Chrysler is SOHC. As such, neither engine would use “lifters”. If yours is the Chrysler SOHC, you might be hearing rocker arm noise. If a valve got tagged by a piston when the engine timing jumped, it’s possible that the impact tweaked the rocker arm too.

Honestly, this is something that should have been picked up by a good engine rebuilder.

Correction: the Chrysler 3.7 does in fact have lifters

Also it is an entirely different engine than the one that blew.

Engine noise is always cause for concern. If it were me, I’d want them to replace it. Loose parts in a new engine isn’t a good sign. Honestly, without tearing the thing open you won’t know what the issue is, but that would violate the warranty I”m sure. We can only guess what’s causing it. I’d recommend you take it back to where the work was done to see what you can work out.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Yeap did what you suggested and they replaced the engine free of charge. Luckily before they took it back to me, they heard the same tick. Could this be flex plate related? Loose bolts, etc? They told me they are doing tests on Monday to figure out what it is but I’d like to hear some opinions so I can throw them a bone

Sounds like the lash adjusters/lifters to me having too much clearance between the rocker arms (possibly due to getting gunked up). I know you stated they were new, but that is what it sounds like. My dads dodge dakota 3.7 had the same issue. It never caused an issue until a rocker arm would fall off and that caused a huge bang. We replaced one lash adjuster, only to have a separate one fall off on the same side. When we replaced all 6 on that side however, and also adding some seafoam, it seemed to clear up the issue. That was over a year ago now and still no ticking.

                    Best regards,
                    Ryan

Definitely not having the ticking due to gunk. They just put the engine in on the 18th. I still d9nt have it back. They’re looking at it still

I would like to take the time to inform you guys that it as indeed not a lifter. Ticking was caused due to a defective connecting rod and or wrist pin. Shop fixed free of charge. Sorry for the long wait time.
