I have an older Dodge Ram pickup with the 360 gas engine. In my quest for more reliable power I’ve added crane cams adjustable aluminum roller rockers with a slightly higher ratio, (1.6 is stock, I installed 1.7), high speed springs, and hardened pushrods.
The truck sat for a while but after adding the springs I have one cylinder that doesn’t want to run clean. It taps continuously, and no adjustment of the rocker seams to take the slack out of the pushrod/lifter connection.
Is it possible that the more powerful spring has overcome a lifter that won’t pump up against the added pressure. Or should I have gone with better lifters from the beginning?
I’m older now and my days of running this motor hard are over so my thought is to remove the high speed springs and go back to stock. Should I be thinking to replace the lifters on that cylinder as well?
Comments would be appreciated.
Thanks. Terry.
