hello my name is joseph and I am very interested in many types of career paths from auto mechanics, engineering to physics. I am a very good hands on learner (visual) I know I would love to invent a few things to help other not for the money aspect but I rather make others happy and live better lives not to worried about the whole “I’ll be rich” part maybe just some to keep me going but not greedy… but anyways I don’t know what career path I should go down or even really get started with I may not be the smartest person in the world but I have a wicked imagination and I can see things how the look and how they will work before I ever end draw or try building… please get back to me “Eric the Car Guy” I would really respect your input (I know your busy so no rush) THANKS ERIC!!!! 😆 banana:

They say if you chase 2 rabbits you’ll loose them both. I have found that to be true. That said, you need to take a good look at what you’d like to do and go from there. You’ve cast a pretty wide net and I think you should narrow it down a bit. I can’t do that for you. I’m not you. You know your strengths and weakness far better than I do. Really be honest with yourself and make your decision based on that. Wanting to do something isn’t always enough, you also need some basic skills, that’s where school comes in. Once you pick that direction you can then move forward on an educational path to get you there. Outside of that, you might consider just starting on some of those ‘engineering’ projects just to see where you end up with them. Who knows, maybe you don’t even need the schooling to go down that path.

Bottom line, take a good look at what you want to do and see how that matches up with your existing skills. Don’t fool yourself into doing something you’ll regret later.

Good luck no matter what you decide. SD

Hi Joseph, it may take awhile to sort out, but the best advice I can offer is to do something you like. I agree with Eric, try to figure out what your strengths are. By the way, if you want to know what your weaknesses are – just imagine they are your strengths just pushed to the extreme. For example, if you are organized, you may also be a bit of a perfectionist. If you are a real people person, you may have trouble sitting down doing work that requires a lot of concentration. This is not a bad thing, just helps to know a little bit about yourself.

Many people change careers several times before they settle down. If something is just not “you”, then try something different. It is OK to fail at something, just give it your best shot and move on.

Most people don’t know what they want to do till they stumble over it by mistake.
              Takes time. Years.

Having a good imagination and creativity are good attributes that many engineers lack. It’s more important than being just “smart”. You can have a lot of fun approaching engineering this way.

I chose the engineering path after being a factory mechanic/technician for 12 years and I love it. I really love taking on impossible challenges and creating a way to solve them.
