I am building a custom, airbagged 1997 Toyota Tacoma, with the 4 cylinder engine. My question is has anyone ever removed the rear brake proportioning valve. The one where if you load xtra weight in bed it increases brake stopping power? Can this valve be bypassed, or deleted, I would greatly appreciate some knowledge in this area, I need it gone, because with the air bag system, as I lower or raise the truck, the brakes will more than likely act very crazy.

Are you planning on driving the car in a ‘slammed’ state? If not, you may want to keep the valve intact as if you will be raising the height to compensate for load, then it would have the same effect as removing it (or the height won’t drop low enough to activate it). If planning to travel ‘slammed’ to the street then you are probably right that the brakes may be overly sensitive – I’d still be inclined to test with it in place to see how you go…

If you don’t plan on towing anything with the vehicle you should be alright just installing a non adjustable valve
