I have a 1998 Isuzu Trooper and its left indicator sometimes doesn’t engage when i flick my indicator to go left. i notice that my dash light for the left indicator doesn’t light up and the clicker noise is alot faster and i have seen the video on the car with the indicator problem. i was wondering if this is a switch problem or if it has some other problem. i don’t want to get pulled over for failure to indicate. the warning light switch works and the indicators all work but this is an on/off problem. Does anyone have a solution or know what the problem is cause i don’t want to take this the a technician and pay alot of money for an easy fix i can do.

So, intermmittent problem with indicator, and when it is messing up, it flashes faster than should.
When a bulb or connector is bad, the blinker either flashes too fast or not at all (just stays on)

Bulbs are either good or they are not. they don’t go bad “sometimes” and come back to life.

The first thing you should check is all the bulb sockets on the bad side. Don’t be shocked if the socket is crudded up with BS, causing an occasional open. Once they get corroded, even a road bump can jar the connection just enough to contact or not.

Changing the turn signal switch is the last resort.
But, just for the heck of it, maybe in your driveway, try the signal and slightly move the arm back and forth (CAREfully)and that would tell you if there is a bad connect in the switch

yes its intermittent but when the problem occurs no flash from the bulb on the dash or outside. works most of the time but there is about a 10% chance it will happen.

If the bulbs are good it could be the switch itself. If someone has removed the steering wheel this could also be the issue. The ‘cancel’ for the turn signals is in the steering column. If it’s not aligned properly you can get a condition similar to what you describe. Similarly, if there’s a problem inside the switch itself it can also cause that issue. Check the bulbs first.

I appreciate the responses guys and I’ll be checking everything you have mentioned and Eric as far as i know the steering wheel has not been removed unless it was done before i owned the vehicle but it has been in my family since we got it and it was a demonstrator model so we are the only owners, i will check with my family and see if the steering wheel has been removed in the past. Cheers guys.
