Hey All so we know my truck by now is a PoS but is drive able which is what I needed. We replaced the transmission with a junk yard transmission on my 4.3l s10. It had a 700r4 on it which wasn’t the right one for truck. We put the 4l60e on it which works great. Only problem I’m having is I’m leaking fluid from it looks like the dip stick. Was really bad at first then we packed right stuff around it just to be able to drive it. My question is how much work would it be to pull the tube and put a new seal around the tube off that’s were it’s leaking from. Or is there a leak detecter for trans fluid I can put into the system if so how long would it take to spot were the leak is coming from for sure? I’m okay with little leaks but I don’t want to be leaking out a quart a week. First time we swapped it leaked all th fluid from the dipstick tube. I had help when installing it and if I remove tube it will be by myself on the floor of my garage.

best thing i can tell you is drive the truck over a peace of large cardboard and see where the leak drips, fallow the drip up, if you have to jack up the truck, remember a leak follows gravity down, and typically doesn’t reverse from the ariflow of the vehicle.

good places to check for leaks are the pan gasket, the seals like the front seals for the torque converter, and drive shaft seal too, and yes dipsticks can leak too, if you have too jack it up and put it on stands to see what you are working with and where the leak is coming from that would be a good start.

I feel confident its not the front seals or the rear seals of drive shaft as we put in all brand new when we did the swap, I will try jacking it up and lettting it sit for a day to see if i can get it to trail along somewere, currently is is hitting exhuast pipe, after driving which is why its hard for me to tell cus what ever drips is being pushed onto the pan area while driving as well so i cant tell easily as to the exact spot. i didnt think to look at pan before we change the fluids in it but im now wondering if when they pulled the pan at junk yard to drain it since they use impacts on everything there maybe they impacted it onto the transmission and bent the pan in the front part of it. if thats the case Can i straiten out the pan or is a have to buy a new one?

Go dump the pan and change the filter/gasket anyway considering it’s a second hand transmission.

Good luck trying to straighten it to dead level, better off buying a new one.
