Knocking sound in reverse

I have a 1993, 3.5L, V6, Dodge Intrepid. Lately, I noticed that when I step on the gas pedal while in reverse gear, I am jolted by a loud thud/knock coming from under the car. It does’nt happen in drive or any gear(s) on the forward direction. Shifting between gears is also smooth. What could be wrong ? Transmission oil is relatively new and also at its normal operating level.

      Thanks,

      Sal

Check the rear transmission mount. It sounds like the rubber has broken away for the steel part of the mount. Common issue on that car.

+1 on checking the transmission and engine mounts. This might also be helpful.
