04′ chevy malibu LS 3.0L Automatic FWD 180k mi.
Suspected it to be the wheel bearings, but after checking out ETCG’s wheel bearing vid I’m thinking otherwise.
Whenever the vehicle is stopped and the throttle is pushed, there is a single knock sound. & Also when the vehicle comes to a stop, there is a single knock. As if something is having trouble locking into place.
Once the vehicle gets to about 30+MPH there’s a progressive clunking sound coming from the front end. Once the throttle is depressed, the sound dissipates, but can still be heard. I pulled over on the side of the road to check it out, and it smelt like burnt brake fluid. Idk, something was burning. Maybe the tranny fluid? 🙁 Placed it on the jack and tugged on the wheels – No play.
It sounds exactly like this – The sound it makes.
Anyone have an idea on the culprit? I’m thinking it’s the transmission…. but I’m really hoping it’s not. If it is, I think I may have to junk it.
