      Hi Folks,

I have a 2007 Sentra with 215K km on it. When I turn left on a bumpy (gravel road), the right front side makes knocking noises. With every small bump the tire hits a knocking noise is heard, not going fast. What could it be, CV joint, strut? Wonder if it’s worth doing myself of just having a mechanic look at it. Noise only occurs on bumps while turning. Perhaps I’ll record a video with the noise and post it later.

      Cheers,

        This can be many things.

With the wheel off the ground, shake the wheel with your hands at the 3 and 9 o clock position. This checks tie rods, Shake wheel with hands at 12 and 6 this checks ball joints. You should not be able to move the wheel.

Pull off the wheel and inspect the suspension. Bad Sway bar links can do this, but so can other things… Noise on turns can be CV joint, could be tie rods.

All else fails, get under the car and physically grab and shake everything. You should not be able to make any noise by shaking things. Also you can grab a hammer and beat on the wheel (while it is in the air) to simulate the bumps and grab parts of the suspension and feel for undue vibration or shaking.

I had this problem once, turns out it was just a connector which was not properly secured.
