Hi, recently my car has been making a knocking noise and it seems to be coming from the front driver side of the car. It happens when accelerating hard from a stop, or when going about 45 and then accelerating from there. Also it tends to happen a lot when turning to the left. The noise is quiet depending on how much you step on the gas and if you let go, it goes away. Another thing that has been happening, I am not sure if it is related to it or not, but when you take off from a stop the wheel begins to jerk from side to side pretty bad, until you reach about 40 mph. Any help on what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated 🙂
The car is a 1997 subaru impreza 2.2l automatic transmission about 190k miles on it

Be sure to check the bushings and the engine mounts, the information in the above videos should help. You might also have the alignment checked as this may be the cause of the ‘wander’ as you accelerate.
+1 to all comments. You may want to take each wheel off. Look for any dips in the side walls as this may be evidence of a belt in the tire going. roll the tire as you walk behind it and make sure the tread does not have any bubbles and is straight. Try moving the front tires to the back and see if there is any difference.
it sounds like you just need to do a clear inspection of the suspension components. with 190k miles on the vehicle, it probably is time to replacing a good bit of ’em. do you have any premature tire wear? that is a clear indication of a bad alignment. see if any boots are torn like on the outer tie-rods, axles, struts. to see if a wheel bearing is going bad, raise the vehicle, with the wheel still on, and grab the wheel from the 3oclock and 9oclock position and shake it back and forth. if there is a fair amount of play, those will need to replaced soon.
