Kickstarter to raise funds for Fairmont

I posted this in the YouTube comments but thought it might get more traction (haha) here.

Have you thought about using the Kickstarter website to raise funds to get the Fairmont project rolling?

I have no idea how many people would join, but if a thousand of us each chipped in 10 dollars you’d be well on your way, right?

That’s an idea that I’ve passively considered. I’ve always felt weird asking money from fans however. Especially for a project like this where I end up benefiting the most. What I have done is reached out to some sponsors that may be able to offer some help. Also, I think it would be cool if I had to ‘work’ for it a little bit. The idea behind this project is to show what a ‘realistic’ build can be. Something the viewers could also do. In fact, I think a nice alternative to purchasing a crate engine and transmission is to find a wrecked fox body, perhaps even an HO model or something, to cannibalize and get most of the parts I’m looking for.

If I run into a wall with it then I’ll consider the kickstarter option. For now, I’m going to try and do it with a few sponsors and some realistic thinking.

Excellant idea to cannibalize a wreck…it’s kind of like recycling for cars. However, the chipping in idea is good too! I know I would be one of one thousand to chip in $10.00! Loved your ideas for the Fairmont, Eric. Will it be at your shop during the Meet-Up event? It will be interesting to see how things turn out.

I’m not so sure about Kickstarter- that has all kinds of rules bound to it.

That other guy in the comments had a great idea too- just set up a paypal account. Way easier for everybody to contribute, without worrying of meeting a certain threshold to get the money.

And I realized that number is actually true. 2.5% of the subscribers would fund this thing entirely at 1 dollar each. That’s every 40th sub, by my calculation. Or half as many people as those who watched the video in the last three days. Half of the subscribers would fund this thing at 5 cents each.

You don’t even need to ask, just add a paypal donation box on the bottom of your homepage and tell us, it’ll run by itself. There are many people who are very grateful for the knowledge you pass on and it’d feel great to contribute to the project. I just solved like 15 of those damn captchas for this post, we really do want to contribute.

Also to respond to your post, the fans benefit from this quite a lot too, you can’t dismiss the amount of knowledge we’re getting. And look at it this way, the viewers are out there putting in work hours while you produce these videos for us without pay. The way I see it you should be concerned about offsetting that 😉

Getting a donor car is indeed still an excellent idea. Doesn’t mean you can’t do it however you think the viewers would realistically do it, just means you can do more of it. banana:

You have to read the rules governing donations via PayPal carefully. Unless you’re a nonprofit, you can get your account pulled for accepting donations. I used to have a donation button on this site until I found that out.
