Kick-down Switch Test

Hi guys,

Any idea how to manually test a kick-down switch? Mine is connected to the throttle cable in the engine bay (as opposed to being under the pedal). If I remove it how can I test its operation?

Nope. Not without make, model, and year. Even then, the ‘kick down switch’ is not really something that exists as far as I know. There are mechanical connections to some transmissions that indicate throttle position or it’s done electronically. The service manual has the most accurate information on component testing. It’s a 2000 Vauxhall (Opel) Omega.

Here’s the procedure for removal (say you needed to change a throttle cable which incorporates the KDS) but can’t work out how to test it…

Thanks for that additional information. I have a better idea of what you’re dealing with now. As for testing, I suppose you could test it like any switch and check it’s continuity both open and closed. If you get readings for both, then it’s likely the switch is good. More info here.
