Anybody have any interesting or rare junkyard finds? Not just cars but parts or even items. I think it’d be cool to see what sorts of things we’ve all encountered.

Off the top of my head, I found several Chevy Express 1500 vans that had been used by plumbers, and they all had a few feet of copper pipe inside, which ended up making me a few bucks. I also found an absolutely pristine Grand Wagoneer. Unless the engine was blown there was no reason for it to have even been there, it looked perfect.

What’s interesting to me is when I visit a junk yard, all the vehicles I see are similar to the one’s I used to see on the road while growing up. Well, they might just be. And when I see a car I used to own, it just brings back memories of my previous ownership.

There’s a junk yard south of where I live that has an Edsel sitting in the pasture and nearby 25+ 50’s, 60’s vintage cars such as the 57 Chevy, etc. A couple of houses up some guy has 3 57 chevy’s sitting next to his garage.

Someday i’ll take a tour of this awesome junkyard.

About 10 years ago some guy about 40 miles south of me put up a metal building on the highway atop a hill by the river. He started obtaining a few old Chevys. A few years later he put up a second building and at this point this large lot is covered with desireable old cars. I do not know if he’s selling any of them or not but it appears that he’s not.

He’s got 57 Chevy HTs, 61 Bubbletops and convertibles, 62 SS Impalas, and countless others from that era.
A couple of years back he branched out and now has some old Torinos, GTOs, AMCs, etc. in there too.
There’s a few rolling hulks and very straight complete cars with everything in between.

In town, he has several buildings now. One is an old gas station with a few early El Caminos, GTOs, and even a very slick 60 Chevy 2 DR HT in black. When I went by the other day he had like a 36 Ford flatbed car hauler that was very slick in green and black. In his other building (an old Dollar General store) he’s got a slick 57 Chevy 2 DR HT in black and a few other slick ones in there along with a ton of automotive collectibles.

I drool every time I go by those places. My rough guess is he probably has several hundred cars now and no telling what’s in those buildings out on the highway.
