Jacked up, wheels down

Once again, a question about our 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo…

Last time I changed the oil and rotated the tires, I had a HELL of a time getting the wheels off the ground. I jacked that dang car as high as my floor jack would go and the wheels hardly cleared the ground. I did this in my garage so the floor is relatively flat and even.

Wondering if bad shocks could do this, or if possible the upper control arms (which I just learned about here on ETCG). It wasn’t an isolated problem either, it was all 4 tires.

      Appreciate any thoughts and discussion!

It sounds like normal travel of the suspension with lifting a vehicle, and you might need a different floor jack with a higher lift capability.

Does the Jeep have tires larger than shipped from the factory?

When I jack up my Camaro the center of the wheel is about four (4) inches below the bottom of the body.

Jack it up and support it by the differential, not the body and you’ll have better luck.
