What does Honda recommend as the service internal and does anyone have any personal experience exceeding the recommended limit and by how much. My 06 Accord (AT) has about 114,000 and if I do the service myself I don’t want to do it until next spring. I would not consider the vehicle used in severe conditions so I’m fairly confident this is not an issue.

Per Alldata timing belt interval is 110,000 miles. According to them the water pump is supposed to be changed at the same time.

Take the timing cover off and inspect the belt very well. You are pushing your luck at that mileage…just change it and be done!! 😛

My experience is that unless the belt is in really bad shape about the only way to check it is to remove it and turn it inside out and look for cracks between the teeth.

And yes, give it a new water pump…this protects your cylinder head, gaskets and overall engine health. Take care of it or replace it.

My personal rule is 60,000 miles. I just quoted what Alldata reported for manufacturer recommendations. I like 60,000 for even non-interference engines because a belt break is an automatic tow. I would rather change the belt on my schedule rather than it’s.

On the same note last month had to replace the timing belt in mom’s 91 Geo storm. She never had it changed (owned since new) the car still has less that 50,000 miles on it 😆 .
