is wd40 a good grease to use when replacing brake pads?

Short answer…No.
WD (Water Displacement ) 40 is not formulated for your specific intent.
There is specific brake grease on the market designed for that specific purpose.

WD-40 is not suitable for brakes, and may contaminate the pads. Use a silicone product for the slider pins and an appropriate product for the pads and shims.

Definitely not.
“Greases” for brakes are strictly silicone lubricants–not actual greases.
Why?
Because petroleum and/or mineral greases are incompatible with all of the bushings and seals used in brake systems.
They also lack the necessary heat resistance .
Using a non-silicone grease on the caliper bushings causes them to swell, which causes the caliper to be unable to move along the caliper pins.
It also ruins the dust boots that protect the caliper pins, allowing road grit to get in, further hampering movement
ETCG uses a 3m silicone paste . Some use SilGlyde which is available at NAPA , Amazon and other stores.
