So, I totaled my 95 Camaro Tuesday night by getting distracted by my girlfriend and missing a curve, and smacking a tree going 70. She is going to recover and I walked away from it, but now i’m stuck with the question on whether to run around to salvage yards across the state getting parts so I can fix my baby or to say forget it and get a new car. This car means the world to me and I would be depressed for a while (already am) if I sent her off to get scrapped. Thanks for any input on the matter and dont be afraid to break my heart as it is already broken. Here is a vid I took of her in a parking lot where they towed her——-> /watch?v=FwvUccvZHpg

Watched your vid. first off , thankfully you and your girlfriend are ok. cars can always be replaced , people can not. that said – to repair that car will far exceed the cars monitary value. my advice is to find another. if your drive train is in good shape you might look for a roller and drop in your drive train ( save some coin that way ) emotional attachement to a car is something I am very familiar with. most recently having to sell my 69 chevelle ( something I swore would never happen ) but such is life. keep us updated.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but how confident are you that a lawsuit won’t surface out of this wreck?

Sometimes feelings and things change after the waters settle a bit. A friend or relative of the GF could put a bug in their ear and who knows what will happen in the future.
In many states there is a 2 year statute of limitations in place and while someone may have no intention of suing anyone today that could change in 6 months, a year, or whatever.

If the medical is taken care of by an insurance company and some extra tossed her way as per the norm after a signed release then all is well legally.

I’m certain her main family is cool with me, as I have been going over to her house everyday to take care of her to show how much I care about her. Her step dad is being a total prick trying to milk all of the money he can out of this and he doesn’t even care about her. I live in Illinois if you were curious on the statute of limitations. She has a 100k budget for her medical expenses and has used 11k of it so far. I only used around 2k of my 5k budget. She also gets an extra 10k for pain and suffering from the insurance.

I ended up with just my legs and arms cut up from all the glass and a concussion. She has a few clean breaks in her face that are expected to heal on there own without any surgery, a pretty good black eye, and glass cut off the skin on her leg about the size of a baseball, and a compound fracture to that same knee. She got stitches in the same day but today she went back because she had a fever and her leg was red and was told there was an infection so she had to have them taken back out and cleaned again. Im going up to the hospital as soon as I wake up tomorrow to check on her and then going to have an interview with my insurance agent to talk about some sort of deal we can get going. Ill keep ya’ll up to date.

Thankfully you both got out of that alive and I understand fully about getting attached to a car.

There are cars that I’ve owned and sold and one that I wiped out which I still think about and wished that I had back; including a 1959 Corvette. The Vette was the one that I broadsided against a Chevy pickup driven by a lady who decided to dart out from a stop sign. 🙁

My oldest son has 2 cars including a ’96 Camaro RS and the RS has been an outstanding car. Still looks great and runs great at almost a quarter million miles and neither the motor or trans has ever been touched other than an alternator and water pump.
One of these days when and if it ever dies we’re planning on converting it to a V-8. We’ve already got a mildly built ’76 model 500 cubic inch Cadillac motor along with an old ST400 (variable stall converter TH400 basically) transmission and we’re planning on stuffing that in there.

goddamn, an accident at 70mph? great to hear you guys made it out alive.

when it comes to moments like this, the real question is if it can be afforded to save the wrecked car and if there is space for the car to just stay put. the cheapest/most cost-effective way to probably approaching this situation would be to gut out the motor/transmission and store that away until you can find a shell and then work on the restoring process. at least with the shell, the camaro will have the same soul lol

sorry to hear about your accident. 🙁 I could not play
your video. How wrecked is it? Parts are going to be
hard to find. What about finding another of the same year, make and model. 🙂

you will have to find a camaro in good condition and tear it apart to fix your camaro in bad condition. it’s kinda like having a working t.v. sitting on top of a non-working t.v.
