I recently replaced my front brakes on my 2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 OHV, 170K, I was on a fixed budget, so I bought cheap cheap cheap pads and rotors. I now found a MUCH BETTER JOB, making about double, and will have Plenty of money to invest in my car, my brakes are top on my list. Note, I have bottom of the line new rotors and metallic pads, I’m wondering if it’s worth it, to buy Drilled and Slotted rotors, with Full Ceramic brake pads, with Beveled edges, as well as new calipers?? (Bleeder screws are all rusted, and I would like to have the caps and be able to use them in the future if it came to it.) Any advice on brake parts or sites? Or if I should even go through with it? Also, would it be going too far if I also replaced the front tires?? They’re at 2/32 in tread. One is at 5/32, alignemnt is needed…

Here is what cheap pads will do… Wear quickly… Dust all over your wheel (if there is not a wheel cover)

Here is what cheap rotors will do…. Wear quicker than others and possibly warp….

About Drilled and slotted rotors… If you are racing your car, and put it through high demand situations, then they are for you… if not… Well.. they are not necessary..

Ceramic pads are great… I love them… They just wear out rotors a bit faster, but they work well…

As far as replacing the calipers… if they are still working, then why replace them? If the bleeders are rusted, they can be bled through the banjo bolt with a pinched brake line…

If the tire tread is low… replace the tires… they are one of the most important things on the car… Tires do so much… From safety standpoint they are very important…a plain quiet ride is a bonus…. If one measurement is that low, seriously…. replace them…

Alignments are also important… for so many reasons…

Good to hear you got a good paying job!! Nice to hear good news and someone doing so well…

The alignment is first to get done, then I’ll do tires, and then brakes, my calipers work, I’m just worried, that I will need the bleeder someday and be screwed lol.. as for the Ceramic pads, I didn’t know they wear Rotors quickly….???? Are they worth buying? And how long does it take them to wear down a rotor?

Bro… We have been through this bleeder thing before… Relax…. If you have the money now, and you are so absolutely certain bleeders are the most important thing in life then try to replace the bleeders if it concerns you so much… Seriously man, I don’t know what it is with you and those bleeders ๐Ÿ™‚

If you break the bleeders, then buy new calipers with your new found wealth… Should be chump change with what you are making now…

About ceramic pads and rotors… A rule of thumb is a rotor lasts for two fully used brake pad replacements… (This is very loose, and does not apply in all situations)… You may only get 1.5 or 1 pad change out of a rotor that has ceramic pads on it…. That’s it…

Brakes are important, I understand your concern. But really man, if you are this worried/concerned/fretting about your front brakes and rotors you should buy a digital micrometer and check the rotor thickness often…. (this is a little bit of sarcasm)… ๐Ÿ™‚

            All the best…

Ceramic pads don’t wear the rotors THAT quickly, just more quickly than regular metallic pads. The rotors will still last years.

How well do the brakes work? Sometimes cheap parts are junk and some times they are good deal. If you have good brakes I say wear them out. And if they last a decent amount of miles you might want to go the same route again.

I will respectfully disagree based on experience…. Especially with a car manufacturer that starts with an “H” ๐Ÿ™‚

Will Ceramic pads make any noise? That’s my main concern, I feel like the metallic will make more noise

                      Ceramics will be very quiet.

Seriously man… This brake thing with you is really getting strange…

Just go to Napa and get rotors and ceramic breaks. They have been good to me. Plus they always have sales on. They are cheap. set of ceramic front pads $40, rotors i paid $20 each. Just stay home for two weekends and don’t go out and they will pay for themselves. Brakes are one of those things where they seem like a lot but a month or two down the road you won’t even think about the cost.

Thanks for the advice Kasra_CA, I’ll check out Napa once I get paid. And I’ll look for a deal, thanks again ๐Ÿ˜€

I only drive Drilled rotors on the german Autobahn. The fading effect is reduced however it is not necessary. Some breaks from 150 to zero and theyre all carbage.
Therefore drive slow or you have to live with it.
To really increse preformance mount bigger rotors with pads. Therefore the breaking system has to be changed. Buy quality parts if youre unhappy and think more about how to pleasure your wife ๐Ÿ˜€
Not everything is about brakes. How old are your dampers? ๐Ÿ˜€
Had complete ceramic braking System on my BMW however i replaced it with bigger standard rotors. Ceramic is not ceramic. Real ceramic brakes have to get to operation temperature to work well. I do not recommend for normal use. Noise is normal and braking preformance is less in normal use therefore you cant get them on operation temperature.

There are huge differences in cermaic brakes. I think you are not talking about the real ceramic systems. You would be suprised if you see the price ๐Ÿ˜€
