      I have a oil leak on a 99 Civic EX D16Y8 engine.

        im not familiar with that engine but clean everything up and see where the oil is coming out from. it could be that the oil pan gasket did not seal correctly.

          Or it could be the old leak fluid that remains.

            sounds logical about the fly wheel. as suggested above.clean the area with brake clean and rags.then try to pin point the the leak.

              Yes, do a good cleaning with brake clean. you might want to p/u an oil dye leak kit ( oriellys carries em ) dump the dye in drive for a day then look for any dye with the ultraviolet light. works pretty well.

                There is another post on this exact same subject and vehicle. A few guys been trying to work it out. I have the same car myself with the same engine; this oil leak seems to be very. I’m still working on mine.

                    I saw this post. I was hoping it would shed some light on the problem I’m having. I just want to know if the back of the flywheel will become saturated with oil if the RMS is leaking.

                      Its going to depend on the severity of the leak as well as if there is excessive engine blow-by.

                        leak is about (2) drops per day. Very slow but annoying. Is it safe to assume if it’s not leaking on the back of the flywheel then it’s probably not leaking on the clutch plate?

                          You would start having clutch slippage if the friction material became contaminated. If the rear main seal is leaking severely, through centrifugal force, it may throw oil all over the bell housing causing contamination of the friction material.

                            Don’t ignore the possibility that it’s coming from higher up especially on that engine if the distributor ‘o’ ring leaks it will travel down to the bottom of the engine in the area that you mention. The rule with oil leaks is start high and work your way down. The only way to truly know if it’s the rear main seal is to remove the transmission and flywheel and inspect it so be sure you’ve eliminated everything else first. Also as I mentioned in the other thread DO NOT use RTV sealant on an oil pan gasket, let the gasket do the work if you use RTV you can actually cause a leak.
