I have a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Limited. I recently replaced both rear calipers, rotors and pads because the previous ones were sticking and causing the brake pads to wear down very quickly. After I did this, I had the same problem, but only on the drivers side. Someone suggested that perhaps the rubber brake hose may have deteriorated and will not let the brake fluid return. So, I replaced all 4 brake hoses and completely flushed the brake fluid. But the problem still persists intermittently. Any ideas what might still be causing this? When it happens, you can smell the brake pads burning, and when you stop there is smoke coming from them. I’m afraid that the friction may actually cause them to catch fire.

Sounds possibly like dry guide pins. Make sure the guide pins are generously coated in silicone paste or brake lube, and also where the pads make contact with and ride on the caliper.

This is a total guess. Could it be that your ABS is malfunctioning causing the calipers to brake outside of your control?

I had a friend of mine suggest this as well. But when I plug in my code reader, I’m not getting any error codes. I guess I’ll try pulling the caliper again and double checking that the guide pins are well coated as well as the area that the brake pads ride on.

If it is intermittent it may not show up while scanning. It could be caused by the movement. Isn’t there a sensor in each wheel? IDK I never had a rig with ABS
              EDIT
Can you hook up the scanner and drive it? Often you can run the wire under the hood near the base of the windshield and through the passenger window. Make sure they don’t get caught in rotating parts. Maybe that will show you if the ABS is activating while you are driving. Of course that is a two man job.
