Hello everyone, I have been battling a strange cold idle problem for a couple of years and I feel like I have ruled out everything and am hoping someone has some advice.
I have a 92 Accord coupe, 5 speed manual 4 cyl with 230k miles. Upon first start up in the morning, I can take off moving forward in first gear and when I come to my first stop to clutch in the idle drops to zero and almost dies. Once the car is warmed up it will not do this; only when cold. Funny thing it does not always do it just most of the time and it does not do it on a cold start going in reverse and then clutching in.
I have replaced the distributor, coil, battery, coolant temp sensor, IACV, starting air valve, fuel filter, ECU, spark plugs (properly gapped) and wires, air filter, oil and filter, cleaned the EGR valve and EGR passages, bled the cooling system, set ignition timing, set base idle, cleaned throttle body and replaced gasket, checked all vacuum hoses (no leaks). I have checked the engine compression, oil pressure, fuel pressure and pressure tested the radiator, all good.
The very first time I had the problem the car threw a code 14 for the IACV so I went through the troubleshooting diagram and everything was fine (even replaced IACV with junk yard part and did not solve the problem), it has never thrown the code again and the problem persists.
Can anyone shed some light on the what this could be? I will be getting a valve adjustment soon, maybe that will be the issue, also, could it be a torque converter issue? The clutch has been replaced twice, could it be the first gear idle setting is off if there is such a thing? What else could it be? Thanks in advance.
