Integra type r cam cap and oil leak questions

HI Guys,

I have a 96 97 b18 type r in my Del Sol that’s leaking a little oil that collects near the head gasket on the drivers front corner, then runs down the tranny and block. I’m going to replace the vtec solenoid gasket as well as the cam cap, but I’m curious which one to get. The one in my car now looks like the top one, so the question is can I pop it out without taking the valve cover off? I’ve read people doing it this way, and people saying it’s the wrong way. Also, it seems with the other type cap (pictured) you definitely take the cover off. Can I use the other type on this engine? Please let me know.

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled upon that thread and it does answer the question about if they’re interchangeable. To avoid taking it all apart, can I just pry the old one out from the side and pop a new one in without taking the valve cover off?

I believe the valve cover and cam cap should be removed.
