I watched your video on your friends Jeep Grand Cherokee in which the engine stopped after you changed the valve cover gasket (June 2012). (I know they are not related). Did some investigating and found a series of videos (Channel: Ronald Jans) where another Jeep owner took apart his “ticking” engine and found that two intake valve stems were almost frozen in their valve guides and bent/broke the valve push rods which caused the noise.

Was wondering if it would be a good idea to do a video on how to clean intake valves without taking apart the engine – maybe using a chemical through the air cleaner or in the fuel. Or maybe taking off the valve cover and pouring a chemical into the valve guides.

My Jeep Dealer has been trying to sell me on this $235 intake manifold cleaning service for a while and I have not considered it until now – based on those videos.

I’ve actually already shot and edited the video. I use water, but you can also use automatic transmission fluid. Not sure when the video will air. I have a few others in the cue as well. It will be out in the not too distant future. I just don’t have an exact date yet.

          Thanks for the suggestion.

OOH! that kind of clean i thought you meant take the valves out and clean them, yea water works wonders, steam cleans everything, during WWII when everything would get carbon and lead fouled in the combustion chambers on P-51 Mustangs they would run water in very small increments through the intake too break apart carbon deposits and smooth out the engine. this was critical because the old engines ran 130 octane AV gas, sometimes they would even run 150 Octane and that gas will foul up a set of plugs at idle, i would imagine everything would just be caked in carbon soot and lead if it fouled the plugs really bad.

if you do use water be SUPER carful because you could hydrolock the engine, but in erics video i am sure he will cover this.
