Installing radiator hoses

I’m in the process of installing a new set of radiator hoses and am fighting to get the lower one onto the engine side. Does anyone know if there is some kind of lubricant that I could use to help the hose go on easier? I heard people use WD40 but I’m not sure if this is good for the hose. I also heard that vasoline isn’t good as it is a petroleum product. Any suggestions would make my life easier. Thanks.

Silicone spray is what I use. Armor-all contains silicone emulsions so that could be an option. Vegetable glycerin also works. No petroleum products, because they degrade the rubber.

Thanks a bunch for your advice! Should be a piece of cake to finish this job up now.

+1 on silicone spray. I use it quite often when installing rubber parts.
