      ball joint goes in. I believe the snap ring goes under the control arm on the bottom of the BJ. in the groove, and then slip the bottom over, and put the wrap ring around the boot. The boot should not go through the control arm.

        I got the old ball joints out and new pressed in and snap rings installed. The moog boot has no wrap ring its a press fit. It just slips on and it has a metal band inside of the base of the rubber or the boot.

        I put the boot on. gave it grease and did not ooze out the base, it oozed out the relief at the top. I worked ball joint but the boot keeps coming off.

        hmmr /;

        Will the knuckle hold the boot down and keep out dirt and water?

        I tried the what is in the pdf. I dont want to rip the boot with the vise grips. My biggest socket is just a tad to small and will cut the boot. 🙁

        A quick Google seems lots if people are having issue with the press fit boot.

          Using a socket or other round(ish) item is the best way to install them. Since you pressed the new one, you could try some of the different adapters from the press kit. Assuming you used a ball joint press. Maybe even go somewhere and buy an El Cheapo socket to use.

          Unless you’re really aggressive with the pliers you shouldn’t have an issue. The boots are pretty thick. You could also try leaving out in the sun for 10 minutes or so to soften up a bit before you try to manually press it on.

            It’s not your fault. There’s a lot of ‘cheap’ stuff out there these days and it looks like you might be dealing with some of it. You have a couple of choices the way I see it. You can take it back and get a different brand of part, or you can live with what you’ve got and wait for it to fail. Honestly, it may be some time before that happens, especially if you keep it full of fresh grease. That’s one of the things you do when you grease a joint like that, you force out the dirt as well as the old grease.

            Good luck and keep us posted.

              Those boots are a PITA to get on. I struggle with them using 2 channel lock pliers. With persistence it will go on.
