This is something that’s been on my mind for a very long time. My girlfriend is American but right now we’re living in Vancouver. We’ve been talking a lot about where we want to live in the next few years and I’ve mentioned many times that I would like to live in the states, whereas she wants to stay in Canada. I am in the first year of my automotive apprenticeship and from what all of the instructors at my school, and from all of the shops that i’ve visited, the employment opportunities in both independent shops and dealerships in Canada is huge and the pay is great for a 1st year red seal mechanic. From what you guys are telling me on here, the job opportunities in the states are decreasing and the pay is pretty low. Aside from population differences, why would there be such a big difference between the two countries’ industries?
Also, I had a talk with my girlfriend who has signed on to the idea of moving to the states whereas I now kind of want to stay here if the industry is better… ugh.
